What this is
Independent SEND support, for families and for schools
SEND Guidance is Claire Andrews, an independent SEND consultant. She works with parents online across England, and with schools in person across the North West.
Independent means she works for families and settings, not for local authorities or agencies. Nobody commissions her to reach a particular conclusion, so her advice is shaped by what is right for the child rather than by what is easiest for a system.
For parents, it usually starts with a plan somebody is unsure about. Claire carries out EHCP reviews with written feedback on what is strong, unclear or missing, annual review support so you walk into the meeting prepared, and help organising documents and evidence if you are heading for mediation or tribunal. It is guidance and preparation, not legal representation.
For schools, it is the work a SENDCo rarely has time for: staff training and consultancy on a single SEND theme, mentoring and reflective supervision for the person doing the SENDCo job, whole school reviews, and support with plans, annual reviews and consultation responses.
How it works
Parent support runs online, anywhere in England, so where you live makes no difference to what you can book.
School work is delivered on site across a 30 mile radius of Prescot, with travel included in the price. Outside that radius, sessions run online at the same prices.
Every service has a published, fixed price. There are no hourly rates, and there is nothing you have to ask for a quote to find out.
Who you would be working with
Claire
Claire has spent over 25 years in education, 15 of them as a SENDCo and 12 as a deputy head. She holds NASENCo (National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination) and NPQH (National Professional Qualification for Headship), has an Enhanced DBS check and is registered with the DBS Update Service, and is a member of nasen.
What that means in practice is that she has sat on the other side of the table. She has written plans, received them, and tried to turn wording like access to adult support into an actual timetable on an actual Tuesday morning. That is the read she brings to a plan: not only whether the wording is strong enough, but whether a school could deliver it if it wanted to.
Two things tend to follow. You get told what a document actually means, in the words you would use yourself rather than the words the system uses. And you finish knowing what to do on Monday, which is not the same as finishing with a list of everything that is wrong. More about Claire.
Where to start
A Clarity Call is free
Whether you are at the start of an EHCP process, preparing for an annual review, or working out what to do next, a Clarity Call is the simplest way to find out how Claire can help. It costs nothing, there is no obligation, and it is a conversation rather than a sales call.
If the most useful thing for you is a free service rather than a paid one, she will say so. Every local authority area has a SENDIASS service, and IPSEA runs a national advice line. Being told to use them costs you nothing and is sometimes the right answer.
